Thermal Design & CFD Validation for Heat Exchanger

By focusing on a problem statement , this work illustrates the calculations involved in thermal design of heat exchanger and the CFD simulations to validate the same .

A heat exchanger is to be designed which has the capacity to raise the temperature of fresh water from 40°C to 50°C at a flow rate of 15LPM. The other fluid available is waste water at temperature 80°C and flow rate of 50LPM. This work illustrates the calculations involved in thermal design of heat exchanger as envisaged in the mentioned problem statement . Further the presented case makes an effort to model, simulate and validate the analytical findings using a computational fluid dynamics procedure utilizing Ansys workbench and Fluent capabilities.
